Game Idea: What Do Your Kids Think is the Most Important to You?

Your children are your world, your everything. You may think that this is obvious to everyone around you, but have you ever asked your child what he or she thinks is the most important thing to you? Or, have you ever asked your child what is the most important to him or her?

You might be surprised by your child’s response.

This fun and interactive illustration game can give you better insight into your child’s perspective.

What You’ll Need:

• 4 Sheets of paper
• Writing implements, such as crayons or colored pencils
• Stopwatch or timer

Directions:

1. For two players: Give your child two sheets of paper and keep two sheets for yourself.

For three or more players: If you have more than one child or a significant other, consider getting the whole family involved. If you do, be sure to have the same number of sheets of paper as participants. For example, if three people play, then each person should have three sheets of paper.

2. Round #1. Set the stopwatch or timer for two minutes. Your child will have two minutes to draw, on one sheet of paper, what is the most important thing to him or her. You, too, will have two minutes to draw on your sheet of paper what is the most important thing to you.

3. Round #2. Reset the stopwatch or timer for two minutes. Your child will have two minutes to draw on the second sheet of paper what he or she thinks is the most important thing to you. On your own sheet of paper, and within two minutes, draw what you think is the most important thing to your child.

For three or more players: Repeat this step until each person has drawn something for each participant.

4. After each person has completed the drawings, display them to reveal if there are any matches. Then, have your child explain what he or she drew for each participant and why. In turn, explain your illustrations to your child and any other players.
